Rant Begin.

I've noticed a lot of people are like "Oh no so & so went mainstream so I'm not gunna listen to him anymore." I just don't understand it. I mean if you were a true fan you'd be proud for him/her/group. You shouldn't just stop listening to that artist just because he or she went mainstream. I don't know about you guys, but it annoys me since I'm really into music, (Hip Hop & Rap to be specific), & there's always those underrated rappers that everyone gets into while they're still underground, but when they make it big they just stop listening to them all together.

Rant End.

I care not for the personality of the artist, music is music and I take it at face value.
Why bother yourself with the technicalities of an artists life?

It's just something for people to be picky about. I'll use Eminem as an example, dude was an underground rapper for quite some time until he got his record label. The only difference is YouTube wasn't around and the internet wasn't as big as it is now at that time so he wasn't getting known as an underground rapper as quickly as some people would that post on YouTube or anywhere else on the internet.

I haven't really come across any underground rappers but I have come across some artists(Mainstream and YouTube) who have changed their whole style and I still listen to the music, if I'm a fan of their music and it still sounds good, I'll continue to listen to it.

It's because usually when an artist goes mainstream their content starts to go down in quality. They lose what made them unique to better appeal to the masses.

If I have a favorite artists who sells out, I'm going to stop liking them.

That's selling out though, artists who actually get recognized for their original music and don't change it up for the radio, I am more then happy. I also enjoy telling people I liked them before they were famous.

Yeah i understand what you are ranting about BUT..

Put yourself in the position of the artist.
So your doing your thing and then some record label offers to throw LOTS of money at you if you follow what they call a business plan (they tell you what to sing and how to look ect ect ..)
The money is huge .. would you turn it down ?.

I am very happy for any artist that becomes known in the public eye. However, if they change their unique style of music just to maximise a couple of profits, they move down in my opinion quite a bit.

This ^^^

They start losing their personality and they lose what you enjoyed. I completely agree.

One example of what your talking about is Macklemore. Look up some of his own songs. They were about love and dreams and orphans and stuff. And now its I WALK IN the club like what up I got a big (Rooster)
