ive been modding my ps3 in the past with games ect.

recently it has stopped working and i have tried to factory reset it but it takes 3 days.

i have also tried formatting the whole console and nothing has happened.

help please? what am i doing wrong?

Depends what the problem is,although it sounds like your hard drive is failing at a wild guess
