MSE doesn't perform nearly as well as the other free options like Avast and AVG, but it does have the best interface by a longshot. Unless you really know what you're getting and are willing to make the performance sacrifices for the ease of use and looks of MSE, I would advise against it. It even had its AV-Test certification revoked.

Thanks, that was quite the eye opener, if I knew the results were that bad I'd have uninstalled it long ago.

I don't mean to say it's completely useless and I still plan on switching to it because I can't stand the interface or bloat of any other AVs. If you use common sense and other tools, you'll probably be fine.

before you uninstall it read the article MS said about the test
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
"1.AV-Test reports on samples hit/missed by category. We report (and prioritize our work) based on customer impact.
2.AV-Test's test results indicate that our products detected 72 percent of all "0-day malware" using a sample size of 100 pieces of malware. We know from telemetry from hundreds of millions of systems around the world that 99.997 percent of our customers hit with any 0-day did not encounter the malware samples tested in this test.
3.AV-Test's test results indicate that our products missed 9 percent of "recent malware" using a sample size of 216,000 pieces of malware. We know from telemetry that 94 percent of these missed malware samples were never encountered by any of our customers."

MS also states that out of all the people using windows machines 94% are not affected by the malware tested.
But if you want a good av get malware bytes(free) and combine it with another real-time scanner.

That's 340 GB more than I have, and I consider my self a big music fan. I'm listening to music now, and have been since I woke up this morning.

350 GB of MP3 320 will give you around 100 days of music, assuming each song is 4 minutes long and is 10MB in size.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't listen to all of it in one go.

:offtopic:

I have tons of lossless and shuffling a huge library is much better than shuffling a small one.

Actually I'm currently using MSE and it is by far the best AV program you'll get.

I've seen and used them all. From Norton to McAfee, to Avast to MSE. MSE is by far the best.

If you want a lightweight AV that doesn't hog RAM, use MSE or Avast.

Tbh you necessarily don't even need a 5-star AV program or a AV program in general. If you're not a big downloader and don't download stupid things from unknown sites, then you'll be fine with whatever AV program. I only had less than 10 viruses or trojans on my computer that I had for 6 years. So be smart and you'll be fine.

I'm deferring to AV-Test's results because they're obviously much better-qualified to draw conclusions than I am. The fact of the matter is that MSE fared worse in testing than other options.
