Earlier I was trying to put windows xp on a separate partion than my windows 7 to have some sort of dual boot between windows 7 and xp. In the process, I managed to completely f*ck up my whole computer. Even though I installed windows xp to a completely separate partion than windows 7, the pc is now unbootable. Every time I turn the computer on it gives me an error saying "unable to read disk, hit ctrl alt del to restart" or something (cannot remember for sure). My friend has a windows 7 disk that he created with the windows 7 .iso he downloaded from his school. Can I boot from this disk and be able to recover windows 7, even though this is not the disk that my pc came with?

tldr: Can I take a homemade windows 7.iso that a friend made to recover my unbootable pc?

You can't guarantee it'll work until you try, nor can I say that the anti-piracy alarms will go off, but if it reads, it'll install.

Also, I suggest things like Bootcamp (if that's the name) for multi-OS boots.

His school supplies it so I think its pretty safe against piracy. He has the serial code for it also. I won`t have the chance to try it for a few days, and just wanted to know if I needed to be looking for other methods or if all hope is lost in recovering it. But thanks for the response. I gave you rep for the help.
