Up to 12 civilians - 10 children and two women - are reported to have been killed in a NATO air strike in eastern Afghanistan.

A further six women are believed to have been injured in the incident in Shigal district, Kunar province.

Villagers and officials told the BBC that the casualties were inside their homes when they died.

NATO confirmed that "fire support" was used in Shigal after a US civilian adviser died in a militant attack.

It did not have any reports of civilian deaths, but photographs apparently sent from the scene to international news agencies appeared to show the bodies of several dead young children, surrounded by Afghan villagers.

A local official said eight Taliban insurgents had also died in the air strike on Saturday, which is reported to have caused the roofs of several houses in three villages to collapse.

So because 1 US citizen dies 12 Afghan citizens have to die and 6 more injured? Not worth it in my opinion.

No it's not worth it. It's like America's drones. They have killed countless civilians. They even shot up a school thinking the building was linked to Al-Qaeda or something along those lines. I understand casualties are expected in war, but what is happening in the Middle East is ridiculous. Things like this are happening, but we get mad when our soldiers die. It makes no sense to me.

That was such a ridiculous and ignorant statement.

On Topic: Nato needs to step their game up.

Even though I'm going to receive a lot of hate for this... Well I don't really have sympathy for civilians who live near the taliban because they could be taliban sympathizers. Did the civilians need to die? No. Was it worth it? Sure I think so, 8 less taliban to fight American soldiers

Personally I think America/Great Britain should just go over with a bomb called M.O.A.B. I'm not saying they should use this because I'm a cod fan I'm saying this because it'll cause enough damage to get our point across but not as much lethal force as a nuke. And why do y'all care if they kill the children like that guy said, they'll just grow up to be terrorists anyway.

No, you just assume they will grow up to be terrorists. Not all Arabs/Muslims are terrorists. Some are regular civilians just like us. We have no point to get across. We find targets that have conections with Al-Qaeda and we drop tons of bombs and other forms of destruction on top of them. It's overkill and dangerous to those that are just innocent bystanders. With your logic, if a store was getting robbed, you may as well kill (or even arrest) everyone in the store because they most likely will become a criminal. Doesn't work like that.
