Okay so i stumbled across my mom's old NES when we were moving boxes from storage (SCORE!!!!) but the problem is i cant get it to work. I get this screen that flashes from black to orange and the power light flashes red. I'm scared to open it cause it's not mine so i don't wanna break it, so i was wondering if anyone could help?

That is most of the time a cartridge problem. Blow in the cartridge and move it around a little while putting it in the NES and it should work. If that's not it then the 70 or 72 pin fell out of the circuit or broke.

I googled it, and some websites mentioned a 72 pin connector, but i dont know what that is o.o .

I don't think it's the cartridge either caused i tried Punch Out, Super Mario Bros, Contra and Castlevania.

It's a pin inside it. This video shows how to fix most problems with it.

If you do decide to take it apart I would watch the video and the pin will cost around $10-$20 maybe cheaper on eBay.
