Rumors: New Xbox requires always Online?

There has been Rumors around numerous highly repped sites that say that the new Xbox console might require all online. This means that even to play campaign games or games that aren't affiliated with online, you will still have to be online to access it. This also means that used games will be useless now. There are pros and cons that go into something like this.

One of the problems is the fact that not everyone has internet connection. A lot of people have mixed opinions about this. Say if Xbox went down, your console is basically bricked. On the 360, we can still hop on the system and play the game you want to play offline. They have also been talking about comparing this to steam where you just buy the games online. We are getting way from disks as well as used games that are being sold. Microsoft and the other big brand game making companies have lost so much money because of used games. One thing they could do is once in a while, put the old series games on sale to get more money. Everything has to do with the money right now. Games are going to get much cheaper though if it becomes always online.

One way to also to make sure that used games do not work anymore, is requiring full game passes. Without the pass, the game would be basically useless. This will also stop a lot of online pirating as well. Forcing you online, brings up a whole another ecosystem in the market place. It forces you into the marketplace to buy more things, add ons, etc. People think that you just go to the store, buy the game and put it into your Xbox. It would not be like that anymore.

How do you guys feel about this?

Not sure if this is true, because what if you get banned? Also with gamestop making a lot of money with used games... I doubt this will happen.

Just a tip, please don't use this font/size. It seems harder to read.

OT: Hopefully this isn't true...

Here is a little interview I watched earlier today.

The thing is, Microsoft and Sony don't make anything off of used games. These top brand companies overpower gamestop in the first place. It is all about the marketing that has been put into play with this new idea.

That would be a dumb move by Microsoft.

I heard something similar months ago. If it requires online, I'm going to be really mad. I'll spend weeks looking at the new Xbox finding a way to allow it offline as well.

Anyway, I heard that they would be using a sort of chip or pass to allow games to be used once, limiting used game sales.

Either way, as long as it's relatively simple and I can play offline, I could care less. I understand them not wanting used games, they don't make any money on the game when it's sold used, and gamestop makes 55$ selling a disk. They basically steal from the community imo.

To be honest, I simply won't buy a console that cannot play used games. People with attitudes like mine will ultimately cost more than the used game industry.

The same goes for an entirely online console.

Just the whole idea of these "innovations" bugs me. I'd love it if the Xbox 720 could be an exact replica of the 360 with beefier specs and functionality.
