when the game came out when you made gold rings it would give you a lot of xp did the new update make it where every thing you smith you get same amount of xp?

Originally, iron daggers were the best way to get smithing XP. Now I believe that it is golden rings like you said. Also, make sure you have the "transmute ore" spell learned. It can be found in a small bandit cave northwest of Whiterun.

Since Patch 1.5 the experience depends on the base cost of the item, the more expensive item you make the more experience you gain. With Hearthfire installed, the easiest way to level up smithing is with Nails.
