Today I downloaded some games and have been having some performance issues. My specs are:

Case: Zalman Z9-Plus
CPU: AMD FX-4170
GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition
Memory: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB DDR3 (2 x 4GB) 1333GHz
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H60
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
Hard Drive: WD Blue 500GB
Monitor: Asus VE228H 21.5"
PSU: Rosewill 600W
OS: Windows 7

It's not a terrible setup in my opinion and should be able to run games at a pretty decent FPS. I downloaded minecraft and went into a single player world to see how awesome the fps would be, but the highest I got was 23 FPS. I know I need to install optifine and everything but why the heck is it so low? This performance barely beats a laptop I have that has an Intel I3, Intel HD Graphics, and 4 GB of ram.

I also downloaded planetside 2 and was hoping for better performance but it averaged from 5 to 15 fps on medium. I started messing with different controls in both the game and AMD Vision Engine Control Center. I turned all settings to LOW and the CPU speed to 50% to 100% (It was on 5% to 100%. Let me know if I shouldn't have changed this). This only made the average go to 20 fps while not in battle.

The GPU usage isn't even going above 35% from what I have seen and I have no idea if increasing the usage will make it better, plus I don't even know how to do that. So why did I pay $250 dollars for this graphics card and it is barely being used and making my performance in games bad? Is there anything I can do to make the performance better or is it just the games I am playing? Thank you for reading this if you made it to here. Please HELP!

23 FPS in Minecraft? Oh jesus we have some problems.

So you JUST bought this graphics card or computer? I'm assuming then you haven't downloaded the latest drivers for it.

Since you have 8GB of RAM, I'm assuming you're on a 64 bit OS.

Download and install this and see if it makes a difference: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Alright alright, it should be this actually: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (first link on the page above)

I'm no expert at this stuff and only had a quick scan of the paragraphs you wrote but..

I'm pretty sure there should be no lag on minecraft.
So try -
#1 - Close all background applications
#2 - Set priority to game played to High in Task Manager
#3 - Defragment your hard drive

About all I can give :/

Alright, try this then.

Start>right click on Computer>properties>Windows Experience Index>Run the assessment and post the rating it gives you (it should be between 1.0 and 7.9)
