Personally I think it should be optional. If I want to get into a game right now for a warmup, sure...throw me into a game of whatever winning or losing. If I am joining a group of friends...sure, throw me in against them so we can all trash-talk later. If I want a fair start and some serious play...no, I don't want to join a game that's 200-550 and get thrown completely off my game for the rest of the night
