I have a gold clan tag my clan is level 40 on mw3, and level 1 on black ops 2 , all I did was enter my clan's clan tag manually into the clan tag editor, and then I signed out, signed back in and BOOM, I had a gold clan tag hope this works for you.

This was on the ps3 by the way.

its a glitch you can do
with google chrome
you do the inspect element thing
you make your clan lvl 10 then you well have the option to have a gold clan tag
