-Excision- wrote heyo guys,

just stopping by to say that after an extensive testing session at my local headphone store i promptly went on ebay and placed an order for the sennheiser hd25-1 ii's

they sound absolutely amazing, nice tight bass, certainly not enough to satisfy real bass heads but more than enough for me. What really made them stand out was the fact that everything just sounded so crisp, i compared them to a pair of beyerdynamic on ear's at a similar price point (can't remember model number sorry) and they sounded much nicer and more 'organized' in my humble opinion.

the only problem i had was that they sounded a bit too quiet even at max volume with nothing but my iphone to power them, so i may consider getting an amp pretty soon.

unfortunately i didn't even get to try on the TMA-1's as I was pretty much deadset on getting the HD25's the second i put them on my head so i really can't compare the two.

So thanks guys for all your help yet again, and if you're ever looking to recommend an all around great on ear headphone to anyone ITT, i can personally vouch for the HD25's being awesome (hopefully my opinion won't change after I get them)

cheers!

Nice to hear you got to try them! And I would not worry about the TMA-1; from what you said you liked about the HD 25-1 they would not have impressed you. I wish I had gotten the HD 25-1 over the TMA-1, but that was a learning experience so I hardly regret it.

We recommend the HD 25 a lot! Not many people seem to want on-ear cans, though, so that's relatively speaking. They're absolutely incredible for rock, isolation's top-notch, and they're indestructible. If you want extra power, I'd recommend the Fiio E11 or a nice Cmoy. They both have a nice bass boost, too.

Glad to see you're getting in to headphones and enjoying it! Sorry about your wallet!

i was actually looking at the E11, i tried it with my SE215's a while back but it really didn't do what i was expecting since according to the headphone guru at my local store in ear's are generally pretty easy to power (i didn't understand much about headphones at this point and i expected an amp to completely change the sound), but since the HD 25's actually are harder to power it should suit my needs perfectly! i've heard people talk about cmoy's on /mu/ before, am i correct in thinking that it isn't a brand but more a diy pocket amp?

i also saw another posted on both headfi and /mu/ various times, all i remember about it was that it was just one guy making them and selling them on ebay and that it was around 50 bucks.. any ideas? sorry extremely vague i know

i really hope to get more into headphones and such but since i'm still a jobless high school student its hard to fund my addiction so my only chance of getting a REALLY nice rig is christmas/birthdays.

The Beyer on-ear you mentioned is probably the DT1350. Those are closer to neutral for me, and my hair gets caught in the headband.

You might have heard of the Cmoy amp. It's usually in an Altoids tin and the best producers I know of are JDS Labs and Biosciencegeek on Ebay.

And yes, CMoy isn't a brand, it's an amp design made by Chu Moy

Budget: $300 (US Dollars)

Music preference: Pretty much everything except like heavy metal (want good bass)

Type / form factor and portability: Over Ear, Portability doesn't really matter

Open/Closed (Not for in-ear): Closed

Bassy, closed, around $300. Since you didn't give much about your music preference, I'm just going off bassy.

i'm thinking of ordering the PA2V2 sometime next week, i'm sure that cmoy's are great but i find the altoid can design slightly tacky.

the real reason i stopped by today was to share a story:

so after i ordered my HD-25's, i showed them to a few of my good friends that i was in a skype call with. While the majority of them agreed with me that they looked really nice and of good quality, my one friend insisted that his Beats Studios were far superior and that i should have bought sol republics instead. When i asked him why he didn't approve of them he proceeded to explain that "i've never even heard of sennheiser, they can't be that good", and that "they look too plain and the headband's weird" (he walks around with BLUE beats studios around his neck pretty much 24/7). This kid also listens to exclusively Deadmau5 and bad youtube remixes of pop songs.

i no longer want to live on this earth guys
