OK. This is an old thread.

First off, someone said that God 'created' sin because we ate an apple off a tree. That is wrong. Adam and Eve knew the tree was the 'Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil'. The Devil tempted them to eat from it in order to unlock two things: Sin and Free Will.

It is the free will side of things that people base their arguments on the Devil being the true God and he was in fact overthrown.

As for the argument of the Devil tormenting people in Hell, this is wrong.
Hell is like a huge torture device.
It works on its own.
In the Divina Commedia, although intended to be literary, not theological, it does draw on Biblical fact showing that Hell is divided into 9 Circles. Each holding a different type of sinner.
In the Middle circle, The Devil and his minions live. However, the Devil is encased in ice suffering the worst possible torment for him.
Isolation.
The Devil was revered in Heaven because of his charm and love for social interaction.

Being alone for eternity is his punishment.

This logically means that the Devil is not overlord of hell and is, in fact, a resident sinner.
Just like any human being who would be sent there.

The Devil is good. He does all of God's work because God created him knowing he would. I mean we all know he's the all seeing and knowing God!

Then what makes humans do bad things?

also he torments them because he likes to do that stuff.

He draws in good people to make them bad so you need to rethink what your saying

God made him knowing he would do it so he can punish the people faking their belief in the all mighty God, they are so evil that they deceived God's all knowing self, so that's why God made the Devil knowing he will betray him and be banished to hell where he torments others like him.

I have read the Divine Comedy, it is not theologically accurate.
The Bible states nothing about Hell having Nine Circles and only refers to it as a lake of fire.
When Dante Alighieri passes through Purgatory, the 7 Deadly Sins are not mentioned as being reparable by constant purging in the Bible. This was a made up theory proposed by Dante Alighieri with no Biblical references whatsoever.
Yes, the Devil is encased in ice alongside other betrayers of their benefactors, including Judas, Brutus, and Cassius but this is still not an accurate portrayal.
It is a poem. A brilliant piece of literature, might I add, but it cannot be used as a factual basis for any argument that involves Hell. It is an imaginary adventure. I'm not saying that it doesn't provide an opinion on what Hell may be like, but it is still just a poem. Nothing more.
