In 1972 there was a plane crash in the Andes mountains, there were 45 people on board including a rugby team. More than a quarter of the passengers died in the crash. 29 were still alive but when an avalanche swept over their shelter, another 8 were killed.

Faced with starvation and radio news reports that the search for them had been abandoned, the survivors fed on the dead passengers who had been preserved in the snow.

16 Passengers were rescued after one of them walked to a village and informed authorities of the other survivors.

Could you have eaten friends and family to survive?

I know that I couldn't unless I was immensely desperate.

of course, heres a bigger moral dilemma that they made us debate upon at our school

its around the 1600's or so, there is a ship with a 4 man crew but their ship is sinking. They all hop into the life raft and start afloat. They had only enough food to last about a week. Once they had run out, they began to look for ways to decide who is to die first for cannablism. The crew could not figure out a fair way to pull on with this. The captain whispers to the first mate "what about the deck boy" who is over the edge of the raft, sick and throwing up from starvation and dehydration. They decide to kill the deck boy with a rusty knife they had, they killed him and ate him, then a couple days later a boat showed up. The crew had been saved. Now the captain and crew are set to court for a Moral Murder case. The captain pleas innocent for the sake of survival it must've been done. The court thinks otherwise. You're the judge. what is you're ruling?

Umm it really depends. I am pretty sure they'd let me eat then so I could survive. I know i'd let them eat me if I was dead and they were alive.

I can see where it would be not guilty, though I feel the captain should have sacrificed himself for his crew.

On topic: I wouldn't be able to do it. As much I would probably want to at the time, I couldn't.
