1) Disable Windows Services (Windows Event Log and Windows Event Collector)

2) Change Windows System Settings (Adjust for best performance)

3) Launch GTA IV and change Graphics Settings

Torrented crap? It's the same game. Laptops are not good for gaming and are really under powered. A 540m is probably the equivalent to a AMD 5450 / 5670 which are low end. I had a GTX 560 ti before and I'd get around 40 FPS on a low preset which is 30 x better than a 540m. Best thing you can do is lower textures, resolution, and close down background applications that are not in use.

You're are wrong because gameplay of my graphics card can run GTA IV maxed out settings no problem and my friend has a GTX 560 ti and can run Crysis maxed out and BF3 so I don't know what you're talking about.

He said he bought it from Steam
Try toning down your graphics and searching whether your graphics card is majorly supported by GTA IV

You're the one who is not understanding things.

The OP said torrented crap, and generation explained that torrents are the same thing just free.
