I'm trying to make a YouTube account,but I don't have a gmail account and I need to have one to make a YouTube account... BUT, it's telling me I have to verify my account by putting my phone number in,but I'm not putting my phone number in, I don't trust it, I don't care how popular google is. Can someone help?

If I actually hear from someone that did it and nothing happened I will do it...but if google says I HAVE TO, then I won't do it.
