First things first if you haven't watched up to season 4 then I suggest you get out in case of spoilers.

Well then. I shall begin.

Yesterday I was having an argument with Zilla and our mutual friend about the breaking bad character "Gus Fring". My argument was that I feel his character was gay, and they furiously disagreed with me.

Their only point supporting their argument is that Gus had referred to his wife and kids through out the season.

My points are as followed.

In Season 4 episode 8 titled "Hermanos" there is a flash back scene of Gus and his old business partner Max meeting up with Hector and Don Eladio in Mexico to discuss a business proposition due to their mutual drug business. During this scene there are many subtle hints that point towards Gus's sexuality. For instance he introduces Max as his "partner". And later on in the scene there are some guards peeing in the pool and make a comment about how Gus and Max "like what they see"

In addition, at the end of the flashback is when Max is killed by hector and they show Gus's reaction and to me it seemed as if someone a lot more important to Gus than a simple business partner was murdered right before his eyes. He was Crushed. This would explain why Gus has such a brutal personality in the present. It would also explain as to why Gus visits Hector in the retirement home basically torturing him with anger and fear. Because he killed his lover.

Furthermore, we never actually see Gus's wife and kids. We only get a brief reference of them. This could very well be a cover up so people in the business don't know of his sexuality. Or that he really is married and is still secretly gay.

Finally, and it's not a strong point. But I feel Gus's old cook Gale was a pretty obvious homosexual, and after Gale was murdered by Jesse the DEA found Los Pollos Hermanos trash, and Gus Frings finger prints in Gale's apartment. Now this could be a subtle hint as to maybe they had a gay sexual affair behind close doors.

Now this whole topic is not to say anything bad about gay people. Gus being gay does not change how awesome of a character he his, and a clear fan favorite. I just love how deep this show goes into character development that a topic like this is even able to be discussed.

So please, share your opinion and discuss! Because I really am interested in what you all have to say!

>Their only point supporting their argument is that Gus had referred to his wife and kids through out the season.

Last time I checked gay people dont have wife and kids.

>In addition, at the end of the flashback is when Max is killed by hector and they show Gus's reaction and to me it seemed as if someone a lot more important to Gus than a simple business partner was murdered right before his eyes. Scenario time. Me and Davey are business partners in the drug world, we have been partners for many years so a friendship bond has formed, (Yes two grown males can be friends without being gay) and we go to this deal. Out of the blue the man we are meeting with shoots Davey straight in the face, boom. Dead. What would my reaction be? Definitely would not be "HAHA DUDE YOU GOT SHOT THE HELL UP DAVEY! LOOOOOOOL!" Nah dude nah. I would be shocked at first and once my brain comprehends what has just happened my emotions would take over, I would be scared for my life, I would be in disbelief that my partner is now dead so obviously I may shed a tear or two. Doesnt mean im gay, just my emotions running rampant.

>Furthermore, we never actually see Gus's wife and kids. We only get a brief reference of them. This could very well be a cover up so people in the business don't know of his sexuality. Or that he really is married and is still secretly gay.

Scenario time #2:
Itsssssss bring your kid to work day!
Gus jr.: So dad where do you work?
Gus: I sell drugs, Jr. I sell drugs.
Gus jr: .....

Yea you definitely wouldnt want to bring your family around the type of people Gus deals with. And what would be the point of bringing his family to his fast food joint? Why have a scene with them there? It would divert from the story and make no sense at all, some things are better spoken than seen.

Or it could be because Gale and Gus were friends and shared some beer and ate some chicken while watching the game on TV. I have friends that are male and if I mysteriously died and they searched my room for fingerprints they would find other peoples fingerprints and I doubt the first thing the detective would say is "Zilla was GAY! I have it all figured out!"

So yea, thats why I dont think Gus was gay.

And now we await Daveys reply...

You are just a funny man aren't ya?
But yes. All valid points my friend. And I understand that my theory is very far fetched.
But if you re watch season 4 and just look at how Gus carries himself.
You can clearly see that it could very well be possible!

I see what Dave is saying. Gus is a bit fruity if you know what I mean.

Another valid point to support my argument

Click that link.
And go to character development.
Proceed to read.

Giancarlo Esposito was the actor that played Gus Fring, and in the article you will read that Esposito was to play Gus Fring as an overly polite, well mannered individual so much to the point that the audience would feel as if he's "hiding some sort of secret"

In addition the article reads, and I quote "especially the very deep relationship with Max, which was interpreted by some viewers and even Esposito himself as possibly homosexual."

So there you go my friends even Giancarlo Esposito himself agrees that the relationship is possibly homosexual.
