Ok guys so you guys have all heard or seen the app that apple came up with to scan bar codes and tell you prices on things right?

Well here is my idea...

What if we could make an app that could scan gift cards or cards like xbox live memberships or microsoft points, and actually activate the cards from your phone?

I mean i know its illegal, but its just an idea. I'm just trying to get some opinions on if you guys think it would work or not

I'm new guys so please don't hate if this sounds stupid lol

a bar code and magnetic stripe are two different things and need two different scanners to read them. It definitly would be a great idea, but if you did come up with this you shouldnt tell anyone!

Good Idea, but not sure apple would approve or let you sell it on the app store!

it would have to have somewhere to swipe the card, kind the only way to read the encryption, it wouldnt be able to just scan the stripe.

paypal is coming out with this new thing for an iphone that swipes people credit cards so you can sell through your paypal account on your phone. Maybe we could use that to our advantage?

Yea i know what he is talking about. Its like this thing you plug into your headphone slot and you slide debit cards or credit cards through it to pay for things. I'm sure with a jailbroken phone, this could come in handy. It would just be a pain to try and code an app like that.
