-Excision- wrote heyooo i'm back yet again,

so i'm absolutely loving my shure SE215's, best headphones i've ever had by far.

two problems though:
1. they're not all that portable
2. NOT ENOUGH BASS

as well, the store i bought them from lowered the price fro 100 to 80, so i went in and got my twenty bucks back, and now have mo' money to spend on ANOTHER pair of IEM'S!

so, considering the two factors i listed above, what would you recommend?

my two options i've really looked at right now are the JVC HA-FXT90's (some cool guy on this cool website recommended them), and the FutureSonic Atrio's.

any others i should consider?
try to keep it around 100, but less is great and more is fine.

thaaanks again

If you're looking to make the step up from the SE215, those two are the ones for you. The SE215 is THE bassy IEM at its price point, but there are other ways of getting more out of them. Amplifiers. A Fiio E6 is ~$25 and has a good bass boost feature. Use it with a Fiio L9 cable if you use an iDevice. Also check out the Fiio E11 (too expensive for IEMs of this price, though, but it's a possibility) and Cmoy BB. The E6 would be my choice here, though, just for its small size and price.

You have heard the FXT90, right? If it's what your looking for over the SE215, go for it!

Monster Turbines would be a sidegrade for the SE215, it has much more bass but the build quality varies depending on your luck. The Atrios MG7 has been recommended a lot as the king of bass for universals, so check them out too.

i haven't actually tried the JVC's, future shop are a bunch of greedy pigs and won't let me....

i've heard really good things about the atrios (thanks parall3l for confirming this )
but its hard to try them as the only retailer in canada is in ontario (i'm in bc)

and just to be clear, i'm not getting rid of the se215's, i want another pair at the same price range to take with me on the go, as the long, thick cable on the 215's makes this difficult.

also, i don't really find the 215's bassy at all.... i don't know if i'm just bad at detecting these things, but it seems to be really neutral, and focuses more on clarity than heavy bass...

but thats just me, also i haven't bothered burning them in as they sound good enough right out of the box.

does anyone own the atrio's?
i've heard they're pretty insanely bassy.. can anyone vouch for that?

I'm sure they'll let you try them if you're going to buy them. If not, try them and take them back! Yes, the Atrios are insanely bassy. Like Parall3l said, the bassiest for their price point. You'll love them.

The SE215 are not really bassy, it's more on the warm side. Still pleasant sounding, but not something I'd use if I wanted a lot of bass. They respond to EQ relatively well though. The turbines can be found for $50 refurbed, if you like bass, check out the ZO2. It's an amplifier design for bass boosting.

The Atrio X's use the old MG5 drivers which the original Atrios are famous for. From what I've read, the MG7 is just more refined and not as strident. If you don't mind comparatively harsh treble, you could save a lot of money and buy the $40 Atrio X. I'm actually considering buying a pair myself because I have a gift card for Amazon.

How are the SE215's not portable enough?

Hey Rootbeer,

I posted on this before and you suggested creative aurvana live headphones. I got them, but they were HUGE! I mean, when I was listening to them, it caught peoples eyes because they stuck out 3 inches from my ear. So, I've returned those and now just want to get some Bose headphones, as I want extremely comfortable 'phones as I said in my earlier post.

I'm stuck between the OE2 and the AE2. I want the AE2 but I'm afraid they're going to be too big. But the OE2s are over ear like Beats Solos which from what I remember can be uncomfortable.

tl;dr:
What is better for both comfort and size? Keep in mind I don't care about portability at all, so what I mean by small is the size of the actual headphons.

Thanks!
