I like Ubuntu Linux distro's. I might use it if I wasn't a PC gamer. It can be very useful if you are good at using terminal.

Alienware sucks though. They are all overpriced. Building a PC is always the way to go.

I'll tell you my story about Alienware.

I went to buy a laptop, right away looked at Alienwares MX17. Customized it to be good, $2000.

I later found a laptop from ASUS, a G73JW. It had BETTER specs and was only around $1500.

It's obvious which I went with.

Well my friend, you're paying for brand name with Alienware, not specs. I'd much rather build my own then pay a 80% retail markup for a logo.
Anyway.
Linux is wonderful. I love ubuntu 11.10. I'v been using linux for about a year now, and let me tell you; if you're a terminal junkie this is for you. There's really no difference between linux and windows, aside from custom commands and the GUI. Windows is more geared towards simple users, linux however is more terminal intuitive. You can get things done so much quicker using the command line once you're experienced with it. for example, if you've ever had to deal with a software company rep that had to slowly, and inadequately, explaining what buttons to press and all this other crap, that's windows for you. Now, for linux say there's a tutorial to complete something, it's all in commands that you simply copy and paste into the terminal;done. Just be careful about what you copy, there are some people out there that will give you malicious codes just for the hell of it. Read up on linux distros. They're really amazing, and free!

Well, I love Ubuntu Linux Distro's myself (For the love of god don't ever get Fedora)
I would recommend partitioning your computer and dual booting before going through with it though. Also dual boot if you like iTunes and stuff like that... haha. or you could use WUBI. It's kinda like a trial version of ubuntu.

and as for alienware, i've never gotten one, but i've always wanted to. It depends on how much money you have and what you want your computer to be able to do.

Ubuntu makes me feel ill. Get a proper distro, something Debian based. If you want a gaming computer don't get Linix, unless you want to run all your games through WINE.
