Well this is going to be the first of many tutorials by me on Cinema 4D (hopefully). I figured I'd start my tutorial series by showing everyone a displacer that was a mystery to me for a while. It is the correction displacer. This displacer allows you to edit the polygons, lines, and points of an object, and will allow you to then adjust the strength of the deformer to adjust just how displaced the object will be. Well without further ado here is the tutorial. I tried to make this tutorial as basic as possible for new users but also tried to pick a topic that I figure not many people know about.


NOTE: I meant to render out a final product from this tutorial but my Cinema 4D crashed as I was finishing. If you feel the need to see a rendered version let me know and I'll make something similar and render it. Also, this is just the basics of the deformer. The more creative you are with it, the cooler creations you can make.

Step 1:
The first step for this tutorial is going to be creating your sphere object. If you don't know how, click and hold the left mouse button on the cube icon. Then highlight the sphere and release the mouse.

Step 2:
Now that we've added our sphere to the scene, we will need to add our correction displacer. To do this, Hold down the left mouse button on the bent rectangle, highlight "correction" and release it. You have now added the correction displacer to the scene.

Step 3:
The next step is to make the correction displacer a child of the sphere. You can do this by dragging the displacer onto the sphere in the objects tab (left side of the screen). Also in this step you are going to be selecting the point tool. It is on the left side of the screen and I circled it in the screenshot for you all.

Step 4:
Now we will need to use the live selection tool in order to select our points. The live selection tool is located in the upper left corner and is indicated by an arrow. Once you have selected it, in the bottom right you will see some options for the tool. It is important that you change the mode from "Normal" to "Soft Selection". Otherwise you would end up with a single spike rather modifying the whole object.

Step 5:
Now that we have our live selection tool ready we can start playing around with the displacer. Make sure you have the correction displacer selected on the objects tab before you continue. Now, with the live selection tool, click and point on your sphere and drag is off to one side, the whole shape should be dragged whit it like jelly. (see image for what it should look like)

Now, Do a few more drags on your own. be careful not to cross your polygons or stretch them to far or you will begin to distort the sphere too much.

After a few click, I had something like this:

Step 6:
You may have noticed that your sphere has jagged corners and bends. Well we are going to fix that using a hypernurbs to smooth it out. To add a hypernurbs, hold the mouse button the the icon of a sphere withing a wire-mesh cube and select "HyperNURBS".

Step 7:
Now that the hypernurbs is added to the scene you need to make the sphere a child of it. Do this by dragging the sphere onto the hypernurbs to enjoy your smooth new displaced sphere.

Other notes: This tutorial is meant to be on how to use the correction displacer. It does not show any of the cool effects you can make with it, but there are many options, especially for animations. I did not show it, but you can use falloff in the displacer tab to only affect a certain area. Also, if you lower the strength the shape will return to it's normal shape. Such as this:
