I set my project up using the NTSC DV Widescreen (720x480, 29.970 fps) setting and I render with the MainConcept MPEG-2 type using the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template and render the audio separately as AC-3 and I have no issues with the DVD output from my Sony Z1. No tweaking or anything. Just use the defaults templates provided by Sony. Nero should be fine with this and not need to re-encode or anything.
