I have a Hitachi GDR-3120L Model number and ROM VER:0078FK. it recently broke (stopped reading discs. Unrecognized disc problem) so i bought the exact drive with the same model number and rom ver from ebay. NOW is it ok if i put the new dvd drive in without switching the board with my old one? I also wanna know if it will get me banned doing any of this and i am not flashing m xbox or anything, i'm just switching dvd drives. Thanks and please don't reply if you have no idea. +REP TO WHO HELPS ME OUT!!!

You have to get the old board to your new one otherwise it won't play games and maybe movies too because your board has your Drive Key.

The way you have to work with replacements is that you must extract the dvd dummy key from the old drive than connecting the new one and spoofing it with that dvd dummy key this will make it work and the board will accept as it will think its exactly the same drive.
