I have a Hitachi GDR-3120L Model number and ROM VER:0078FK. it recently broke (stopped reading discs. Unrecognized disc problem) so i bought the exact drive with the same model number and rom ver from ebay. NOW is it ok if i put the new dvd drive in without switching the board with my old one? I also wanna know if it will get me banned doing any of this and i am not flashing my xbox or anything, i'm just switching dvd drives. Thanks and please don't reply if you have no idea. +REP TO WHO HELPS ME OUT!!!!

you cant just swap drives it will not work
you will need to either extract the dvd key from the old and flash it to the new one.
or take the board out the old and put it in the new

i did a board swap with my lite-on and it workd fine
and no it will not get you banned

You need to get the disk key or dvd key or something from the old one, check out xbox360 discussion and stuff you will find and recieve better answers.
