Alright so I have a standard 500 GB laptop sized HDD and I was wondering if there is any way to format/partition the drive such that my xbox sees it as a 250 GB HDD so that I can use it on my retail. I realize that this may waste the other 250 GB of space but I am fine with that so long as it works. Is there any way to do this?

no but if you would like to partition it using partition magic, you then can allocate a cerrtain amount of space, then it will show up as a storage device on the xbox .. you will need to then configure it,

your xox will not recognize it unless it has a FAT32 configured partition
