I fractured my back

I fractured and dislocated both ankles coming off my tb at a gallop. Not good. At the time I ended up with two screws in one ankle and a plate and six screws in the other one. As well as the bone injury I complete tore all the tendons and ligaments in my right ankle, and most of them in my left ankle. The funniest thing my surgeon said (weird sense of humour I know) was that it should work but wasn't anatomically correct! lol.
I had 3 months in a wheelchair and then 3 months on crutches after. I was back riding about 8 or 9 months later but it took a while before I was back at the sort of riding I had before. I do still have confidence issues so don't be suprised if it's hard when you start riding again, it will take time for your confidence to come back.

Long term (I did this about 3 1/2 years ago) I've had to have one of my ankles fused due to severe arthritis and am having joint injections to try and delay fusing the other one, not that any of that stops me riding. Both ankles were completly dislocated and the fractures where through the joint surface, hence why the arthritis has developed.

As for which is worse, I think it would be hard to have worse injuries to ankles without having them amputated (they were so severe I have papers written about them as the doctors hadn't seen any that bad before) however it's very difficult to compare because it depends on how severe your fractures are and regardless of a comparison they will have a big impact for you. Plus I think you probably broke more bones than me lol

The worst I had was spraining my ankle. And I'm very active I just don't get injured much.
