Im new to gta 4 i just bought the game how do i play online?

In singleplayer, click the "UP" button on the DPad, this will bring up your cell phone, scroll down to "Multiplayer" click that, then click "Player Match"click that, then click "Free Mode" (Or whatever mode you want to play)
