Hey TTG,

My iPod has been experiencing some problems after I failed to jailbreak it with redsn0w. It is a 4g iPod Touch running 4.3.2 firmware. It works fine but occasionally it is a bit buggy.

I tried to restore it in iTunes with a 4.3.2 ispw file. I get the following error message.

I read somewhere on the internet that you have to be in something called DFU mode to restore it. What is DFU mode and how do I get into it?

Also, is it possible to 'exit' DFU mode? i've heard stories of people getting stuck in DFU mode. I don't want to make my iPod completely unusable..

Any help will be appreciated. And if you manage to restore my iPod, I will +Rep

Thanks in advance,

Dan

P.S: I WILL NEVER BE USING REDSN0W AGAIN! I'll update to 4.3.3 after I restore and jailbreak it with jailbreakme

To restore it with custom firmware you have to be in DFU mode.

Here are the steps:

Lock button for 2 seconds.
Without letting go of the lock button press the home button for 10 seconds.
Release the lock button and keep the home button down for 15 seconds. it will put it into DFU mode.

I tried to downgrade firmware on my iPod 4g, and i ran into the same error, it has to do with iTunes being too updated, but if you downgrade iTunes, it still doesnt work anymore. So theres no reason in trying.

ALSO, to restore your iPod to the way it was, just click restore, it will resotore it, then use the backup file to bring it back to normal. Which should be 4.3.5, which currently has a tethered jailbreak, but thats it.

Umm.. thanks!

I still don't understand. I'm not trying to restore with a custom firmware, I'm trying to restore with the 4.3.2 ispw file I downloaded off a website. (Therefore, not downgrading).

I hold the shift key while I click restore and I select the ispw file.

If I put my iPod in DFU mode, can I get it out again?

If you put the ipod into DFU mode, You can get it out. 2 ways.

Connect it to iTunes, and click restore.

OR

Use TinyUmbrella. It will kick the device out of DFU if all else fails.

Just put ur iPod into DFU mode,

Then plug your iPod into the computer,

Hold shift, then press update (not restore unless that's what you want)

And click ok the .ipsw file you want to use and choose it to restore then it should work.

If not pm me and I'll try and talk you thru it cause no one needs to mess up there iPod here.
