This year for games is a huge year, with multiple epic relases the competition for the top ranking title "Game of the Year" will be a neck on neck race. With the mind blowing visual quality of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Battlefield 3, and the 2 of the most anticipated releases in the past decade Call of Duty MW3 and Gears of War 3, there will be alot of contravery over who will make it to the top of the publics gameing choice.

So lets take a closer look at the competators to get a scense of who might win.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a role-playing video game being developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls action role-playing video game series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Skyrim is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, in the land of Skyrim. The province has erupted into civil war after the assassination of its king. Concurrently, the god Alduin, who takes the form of a massive dragon, has arisen to destroy the world. The player character is one of the last living Dovahkiin (Dragonborn), and must fend off Alduin and save Skyrim from destruction.Skyrim retains the traditional open-world gameplay found in the Elder Scrolls series. The player is free to roam the land of Skyrim at will, either on-foot or on horseback. Within Skyrim lie five major cities, numerous smaller towns, expanses of wilderness and mountainous ranges. Each town and city has their own economy, which the player can manipulate or sabotage if they so choose. When visiting cities, the player can complete activities such as cooking, farming, woodcutting and mining, as well as accept jobs to earn money. Any job which an NPC can perform can also be done by the player. The player levels up by raising skills. Eighteen skills are present in Skyrim, and the class system from Oblivion has been removed. Perks are skill-specific abilities, organized in a system of branching groups called "skill trees." Each rise in level allows for another perk to be picked. There are 280 perks, and leveling is now possible past level 50, but at a highly reduced rate. The on-screen heads-up display only appears when the player's health, stamina, or magicka are being depleted. Items and equipment layouts can be saved to a quick-access menu, and the pause-screen inventory menu is presented in a compass-style overlay; while in the inventory, the player can rotate and zoom in on acquired items.

Weapons can be created by the player at a forge, and are assigned to each hand individually, allowing for dual-wielding. At the cost of stamina, the player can sprint and jump. Shields can be used with a bashing attack, and timing is required for blocking with a shield. Blunt, bladed, hacking and stabbing weapons each have specific advantages and roles; as an example, the player is granted the ability to perform finishing moves. There are over eighty-five spell types, which can be used in ranged and close combat forms. Spell types have specific qualities; a frost spell slows and drains stamina, while a fire spell causes prolonged damage through burning, and may also ignite the environment. Players can equip one spell per hand and will be able to charge up spells before casting for greater power. When practicing archery, arrows take longer to draw back than in previous Elder Scrolls games, but do greater damage. Because of this, arrows are expensive and considered rarities. A player equipped with a bow can use it defensively in close combat, in a charging counterattack. The player can sneak, and non-player characters (NPCs) become alerted if the player's movements are detected. Daggers are specifically effective when used in a sneak attack, inflicting devastating damage.

Skyrim makes use of the Radiant AI artifical intelligence system created for Oblivion, which has been updated to allow NPCs to "do what they want under extra parameters". The updated system allows for greater interaction between NPCs and their environments; NPCs can perform tasks such as farming, milling and mining in the game world. NPCs can interact with the player character through conversation, and can request favors and training for the player, or challenge the player character to a duel. Events such as dueling are randomly-generated encounters, taking influence from Bethesda's previous game Fallout 3. Skyrim introduces the Radiant Story system, which governs quests and how they function. Side-quests are dynamically altered based on the player's actions, and are tailored to the player's abilities and progress within the game. As an example, the player might be sent off to a dungeon that has not been previously explored, and face enemies that are defeated most effectively with the player's preferred combat style. Part of Skyrims effectiveness is due to its new and improved Creation engine.

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Games Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360. Originally due for release in April 2011, the game was delayed and will now be released on September 20, 2011. It will be the third installment of the Gears of War series, and the final game in the current story arc.Gears of War 3 will feature four-player co-op for the first time in the series. Fully controllable mech suit, called silverbacks, will be available for use in certain parts of the game, armed with a machine gun and rocket launcher. They have two operating modes, in assault mode it is controlled like a standard character, in stationary mode, they lock into position and deploy their armor, as well as cover for other Gears from their legs.

The player will once again play Marcus Fenix, although at several points throughout the game, control will change to other characters.

There will be several new Locust enemies in the game, including the Savage Grenadier, the Digger Boomer, the Locust Siege Beast, the Kantus Knight, as well as the return of the Berserkers (both ordinary as well as Lambent). Additionally, the game introduces the new Lambent enemies, such as Drudges, Polyps, and Lambent Stalks. There will also be new weapons; the Retro Lancer (a lancer with a bayonet attachment), the Digger Launcher (a gun that launches small digging creatures through the ground at high speeds and explode), the Sawed-off Shotgun, Incendiary Grenades and the One Shot (a heavy weapon that, as the name suggests, kills enemies in a single shot).

Four new playable female characters will be introduced: Samantha Byrne, Anya Stroud, Queen Myrrah, and Bernadette Mataki, a character from the Karen Traviss novels. Other new playable character include Jace Stratton, a battle-hardened soldier who appears in the comic series and is mentioned in the second game, and Griffin, leader of a group of human survivors called the Stranded. Hip-hop star Ice-T will voice the character of Griffin, while actress Claudia Black will be the voice of Samantha. Hip-hop star Drake was originally cast as the voice of Jace, but has since been replaced by Michael B. Jordan.

Gears of War 3 will include a new mode called Beast mode. Similar to Horde Mode in Gears of War 2, the player instead attacks COG members as the Locust creatures. Tokens are earned for killing enemies, allowing the player to upgrade their character to a stronger class of Locust. Known Locust classes to be included are Tickers, Wretches, Drones, Kantuses, Kantus Knights, Boomers, Digger Boomers, Butchers and Berserkers.

Horde Mode will also feature in the third installment, dubbed "Horde 2.0".[9] Instead of previously being a simple "find a spot and hold out" game as in Gears 2, Horde 2.0 plans to be far more strategic. Players will now choose an area as their "Command Post" and earn cash from kills to build defences around it, such as wire and laser fences, automatic and manual turrets, and decoys. Every tenth wave will now feature boss monsters from the campaign, including Brumaks and Lambent Berserkers. It has also been rumored that Savage Corpsers will be included.

Epic have announced that the game will run on dedicated servers due to fans complaining of several issues that hampered the multiplayer in Gears of War 2. Variants of the original multiplayer modes will appear in Gears of War 3. In Team Deathmatch, a similar game type to Warzone, every team has a total of 30 lives per round, and when all the lives run out the match turns into a mixture of Warzone and Execution rules. Capture the Leader is a combination of Guardian and Submission, where the leader will have to be captured and held for 30 seconds. However, the leader will still be able to struggle and knock his captor around, which causes minor damage and can turn a match around. Also, there is King of the Hill, which is basically Annex from the two previous Gears of War games. Additionally, players can earn awards based on their performance and unlock several different character variants. New executions, weapon skins, and mutators (customizable options for private matches), can also be unlocked.

Call of Duty MW3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (abbreviated as Call of Duty: MW3 or simply MW3) is an upcoming first-person shooter video game currently in development by Infinity Ward with assisted development from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software co-developing multiplayer development. It will be the third installment in the Modern Warfare series, and the eighth Call of Duty installment in total.Infinity Ward revealed that Modern Warfare 3 will feature a new survival mode. The new mode will feature up to two players fighting level after level of increasingly difficult enemies. Unlike other video games where enemies spawn at fixed locations, the enemies in this mode will spawn around the player so that they can approach the player from a tactically advantageous location. As players fight off enemies, they will be earning cash. More cash is earned for scoring headshots, having high accuracy and taking less damage overall. For each kill, they can use their money to purchase items such as new weapons, upgrades and ammo. Another example to earn more cash is by consecutively killing enemies quickly: killing one enemy and then another one after a prolonged time period will no longer be as rewarding as killing two enemies in quick succession. The new mode will be integrated from the game's multiplayer maps, meaning that all multiplayers maps may be played with a partner in the survival mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was known to be in development after a legal dispute between Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella and Activision resulted in the pair being fired from the company. Several Infinity Ward employees followed West and Zampella as a result of the ongoing dispute, causing Activision to enlist the services of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software to assist development of the title.

On May 13, 2011, four teaser trailers were released on the official Call of Duty YouTube page, separately titled "America", "England", "France" and "Germany", indicating the various locales of the game. The same day, video game website Kotaku leaked information about the game, confirming that it would be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as well details regarding weapons, levels and modes found in the game.

On May 23, 2011, Activision released the first gameplay trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on YouTube ahead of its official premiere during the NBA Western Conference Finals.

On May 31, 2011, Activision announced Call of Duty Elite, a brand new social service for the Call of Duty community to track and compare statistics, create videos and access premium content. The service will be fully integrated into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and will launch to coincide with the game's release.

On June 6, 2011, 11:00AM (PDT), the first live gameplay demo of Modern Warfare 3 was presented by Robert Bowling and Glen Schofield at E3 2011.

On June 14, 2011, 12:35PM (EST), the first live gameplay demo of the new Survival Mode was played by Jimmy Fallon and Simon Pegg on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 (commonly abbreviated to BF3) is a first-person shooter action video game, being developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and to be published by Electronic Arts. The game is set to be released on October 25, 2011 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Despite its name, it is the eleventh installment in the Battlefield franchise, and the direct sequel to Battlefield 2, released in 2005.Battlefield 3 will feature the maximalist combined arms battles that made the series popular across single-player, co-operative and multiplayer modes. It will reintroduce several elements absent from the Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position and 64-player battles on PC. To accommodate the lower player count on consoles, the ground area will be limited for Xbox 360 and PS3, though fly space will remain the same.

During an interview with GameInformer Magazine, EA stated that Commander Mode is unlikely to be included, which was met with some criticism on the EA forum.
The game will feature maps set in Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, Sulaymaniyah, New York, Wake Island and Oman. As a whole, combat will take place in urban streets, metropolitan downtown areas, and open landscapes suited to vehicle combat.

Players will be able to use vehicles during the campaign, but their use will be limited.

Set in 2014, the player will take on the role of Staff Sergeant Henry 'Black' Blackburn, a member of the United States Marine Corps deployed along the Iran-Iraq border. [10] SSgt Blackburn leads a five-man squad on a mission to locate, find and safely return a US squad investigating a possible chemical weapons site, whose last known position was inside a meat market controlled by a hostile militia. After engaging in several gun battles with hostile forces, Blackburn and his squadmates are caught in a massive earthquake whose epicenter is in Iran. Brief shots from the campaign trailer depict an aerial view of a war-torn city, a column of M1 Abrams tanks being attacked by cluster munitions, and an aerial dogfight between US and Russian fighter aircraft.

Battlefield 3 features the return of class-based game play, with four classes: Assault, Support, Engineer and Recon. The abilities of the Frostbite 2 engine will be utilized, with the Engineer's flashlight able to blind other players, and concentrated LMG fire blurring the vision of suppressed players.

Several game modes have been announced: Conquest, Rush, and a new mode, Team Deathmatch.

Battlefield 3's lead platform is the PC rather than a console.

Battlefield 3 will use a new Frostbite engine built especially for the game. Known as Frostbite 2, it will deliver more advanced destruction, sound, and graphics than previous versions. The updated Frostbite 2 engine can realistically portray the destruction of buildings and scenery to a greater extent than previous versions. Battlefield 3 uses a new type of character animation technology called ANT. ANT technology is used in EA Sports games such as FIFA, but will now be adapted to create a more realistic soldier, with the ability to transition into cover and turn their head before their body, as well as "drag fallen comrades into safety and mount weapons on almost any part of the terrain.

Halo 4

Halo 4 is the seventh video game in the best-selling Halo franchise. The game's 2012 release was announced at the end of Microsoft's 2011 E3 press conference, and will be the first major installment to be released less than three years after the previous one, Halo: Reach, although five years after its 2007 direct predecessor, Halo 3. According to the conference presenter, Halo 4 is intended to be the first of a new trilogy of Halo series games. Whereas the previous Halo games were developed by Bungie, Halo 4 will be developed by 343 Industries NOT BUNGIE!. The game continues some time after the ending of Halo 3, and marks a return of the Master Chief as the playable character. Cortana will also appear in the game. The official website was launched shortly after the E3 press conference, and states: "Set in the aftermath of Halo 3, Master Chief returns to confront his own destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. Halo 4 marks the start of a new trilogy that begins with its release in 2012.

My prediction is that Skyrim will win game of the year due to it graphics and gameplay features. Bathesda's previous elder scrolls Oblivion was game of the year previous but skyrim has taken the elders scrolls name to a wholenother level of gameing never before seen in the gameing community.

plz post you idea of who will win and y and be sure to thank the topic it took me a while to copy and paste some of this from wiki lolz
