New Xbox One Experience: Fix Coming for Failed Update of Preview

4.6
If you’re among the chosen few that got invited to the preview of the New Xbox One experience, you may have encountered a rather problematic issue that caused the update to hang and fail at about 60-80%.

Luckily, Microsoft’s engineers have identified the cause, and a fix is incoming, as mentioned on the private preview forums.

“System Update Hangs: A huge thank you to the community over the past 24hours as we encountered a system update error when the system upgrade hangs at 80%. Engineering has determined the problem from your experiences and a fix is underway.”

In the meanwhile, a workaround has also been provided for those that don’t want to wait for the fix:

“In the interim any user that encounters the system update hanging at 60-80% please do the following:
Pull physical power (yes, I really mean pull the cable).
Once the console is powered back on, it will appear to complete an update, then land on a System Update available screen.
Attempt to take the update again, if it hangs a hard reboot may be required again and try again. We have seen that 3 reboots can complete.”

As usual, this serves as a good example on why taking part in the beta preview program is more of a responsibility, and not just the privilege to check out new features before everyone else.

Preview members deal with these problems so that the rest of the user base won’t have to when the new Xbox One experience will launch in November.

Musk
Mickers More issues, at least it was sorted relatively quickly.

they should have checked it & solved it before release IMO.

The whole point of the preview is to iron out problems like this so it doesn't happen on the full release.

At least that they are trying to solve the problems, some companies would just leave it be.

Well at least we don't have to suffer. This is why it is important to do these previews.

Musk Should have looked into it before releasing it to be honest.

I doubt they don't. It's hard to find all bugs and glitches when you only have ~50-100 testers. Bugs are found much easier when tens or hundreds of thousands test it out.
