Microsoft Denies $399 Disc-Less Xbox One

3.8
Earlier this month, during a massive spill of Xbox One details, the $399 Xbox One with no disc drive, as well as a limited edition Titanfall console were among the juiciest leaks. The accompanying images made the leak seem pretty legit, and a senior publishing source later confirmed the rumor.

But now Greenberg, Chief of Staff for Devices and Studios Group at Microsoft, has firmly squashed that rumor. While it may still be true that Microsoft was working on such a console, it looks like we won't be seeing it, at least for a while. Stating in a response to a question about the console's existence,
"No, you cannot believe everything you read on the internet..."

Industry analyst Michael Pachter said that a cheaper Xbox One with no disc-drive would be "Dumb, dumb, dumb," when commenting on the rumor, and so it seems Microsoft has come to the same conclusion.amazingly fast internet, so I would jump on a deal like this, but it does seem like it would only appeal to a very specific market.

That's a wrap, folks.

Spot TTG why would you post this then? You have any idea how dumb this makes you guys look?

They share the fact that the rumor is spreading, then they share the fact that Microsoft denies the claim the rumor made. Whoever wrote the article never said it's true. It clearly stated rumor.

Disc-less may seem like a good idea, for me it's going to be a nightmare.

RGHSigned Unlike a Computer, I'd imagine this would be far more difficult to even get games onto. I mean not very hard, just... a hassle.

What the hell are you talking about?

Well it's pretty clear what he's saying. The only part that would be a pain in the ass would be how much gbs the games are right now.

Oasis They'll do it eventually. Maybe in a few years.

Yeah, they'll have to. We can't keep using discs forever.

I think discs are good and will be around for a quite a while. I'd hate for my game to corrupt and have to re buy it again if I downloaded it (which has actually happened to me on the 360).

This only happens when there is user error. Discs cost more to make and the disc drive costs more money to have in the console, not to mention the extra space it uses up in the console. If the HDD were doubled (at least), then doing dowoad only would be optimal.

Hollywood_Undead A Disc-less xbone would be as useless as a gaming PC, with no internet...

I haven't used a dvd drive on a gaming pc in a few years now, never looked back. Just another place i can install a HDD for RAID.

How? You just redownload it, it's free. I'm calling bullshit. You're stupid if you didn't go through support.

We should have got rid of disks ages ago. Haven't got fast enough internet? Oh well, you're the damn kid who disconnects leaving your team to fight a lost battle.
