PS4 teardown video shows what's under the hood
This video, courtesy of Wired, shows the first 'teardown' of the PlayStation 4, showing all its inner workings.
This isn't any amateur teardown where some knob pre-orders a PS4 and forces it open with a sledgehammer, though. This is the real deal.
The video is hosted by Sony engineering director Yasuhiro Ootori, who knows the console inside-out. There's no speculation or "I wonder if this is the RAM" rubbish here - everything Ootori-san says is 100 per cent fact.
In August, when Sony announced a PS4 release date of November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, the company said more than one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide.

Everyone seemes to forget the gap between 360 and ps3 launch was massive, they had a lot of time to make sure they didn't make the same mistakes microsoft did. Some of this design is flawed too. HEat from those RAM modules isn't going to be very efficiently dealt with.

I've been an xbox user for years, because it was cheaper. I must admit, however, that looks simply beautiful, and it's incredible engineering. Such a, in relative terms, powerful machine packed into a small space with a, in my opinion, really awesome design. If I was getting a console - this would be the one.

Zero_Point_FiveSony already confirmed that the PS4 runs cooler than the PS3. The PS3 never had major overheating issues like the RROD. So it's better to have the brick inside and plus the PS4 is a very small console.sir_grecoVANAGON I've always modified 360's and I gotta say I really like the PS4's design, the heatsink looked really big, and I LOVE how they are always able to include the power supply INSIDE the console.
honestly, id rather have the power brick outside. why not that not big ole chunk of energy out and use that space for somethin else. your gonna have a cord goin to an outlet anyways.
Agreed, i would rather have my power unit outside to reduce the heat produced inside the console... Also... it looks so easy to take apart! If i ever get my hands on one.. it wont stay together for long ;)

So much unused space on that motherboard. Makes me think if they did it on purpose for the purpose of the 'slim' console down the road. Or maybe it was just for the sakes of avoiding heat.

Kikotron Am I the only one who doesn't see this become a slim? To me it looks like that's as slim as it's gonna get.
I couldn't see them getting a smaller version. This one is plenty small enough
