Major Nelson thinks 'Xbone' nickname is disrespectful

4.7
Xbox One's 'Xbone' nickname hasn't gone down too well with Microsoft's Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson), who believes that the name "disrespects" the effort made by the Xbox team back at Redmond.

"I don't like it," Hryb replied when asked on NeoGAF what he thought of the nickname.

"It disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky but I don't care for it myself."

Gamers branded the upcoming console the Xbone shortly after its reveal back in May.

And it appears to have hit the mainstream, too. Snoop Lion referred to the console as the "Xbone" during a Reddit AMA last week.

Some have since renamed the console the Xbox One-Eighty, following Microsoft's multiple U-turns.

Xbox One launches on November 22.

It's appropriate from the WTF introduction/reveal and that restriction DRM u-turn.

People won't be buying it for the name, so what does it matter what it's called?

DissPosted:

It's just a nickname, nothing more.

As others have said its a Nickname its not like it is the actual name for the console, but as he was asked for his opinion on the matter he only said what his opinion was.

It's all in good fun. It's not like they're serious. lol

Does it matter what the name is called? Also I fail to see how it disrespects the teams efforts and hours put into the console. Load of fuss about nothing, every console gets nicknames.

The name does not matter it could be called the shit box and I still would have bought it.

I don't see how a nick name created by consumers is offensive. It's like calling the Xbox 360, just "360". Calling the Playstation consoles (1,2,3,4), PS(1,2,3,4). A Personal Computer, a PC. Theses may be acronyms but at the same time they are an easier way to say things and remember them. If Larry (The Cucumber) Hyrb doesn't like it as the PR, then maybe they should have thought of calling it something else that wouldn't have caught like it has.
