Major Nelson thinks 'Xbone' nickname is disrespectful

Xbox One's 'Xbone' nickname hasn't gone down too well with Microsoft's Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson), who believes that the name "disrespects" the effort made by the Xbox team back at Redmond.

"I don't like it," Hryb replied when asked on NeoGAF what he thought of the nickname.

"It disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky but I don't care for it myself."

Gamers branded the upcoming console the Xbone shortly after its reveal back in May.

And it appears to have hit the mainstream, too. Snoop Lion referred to the console as the "Xbone" during a Reddit AMA last week.

Some have since renamed the console the Xbox One-Eighty, following Microsoft's multiple U-turns.

Xbox One launches on November 22.

Whilst it does sound somewhat dodgy, it is just a nickname, nothing more. I personally don't see the big deal with it, the nickname is harmless really. I am sure that the use of the name will die down before long, and it will go back to being called Xbox One or X1 ect.

I know right, they just picked the xbone because they think it's clever but it's the opposite

Many people use it as a derogatory term towards the Xbox One and i do see it as pretty disrespectful and also stupid. The console actually looks pretty good despite the criticism that it got on announcement

Xbone for the Xbox name would be horrid too be honest, the name is pretty bad I am glad they chose Xbox for the name instead of Xbone. I could see why he is pretty mad about the name being disrespectful, it is like called TheTechGame Se7enSins and be honest that will be disrespectful to everyone on this community.

haha well the name was meant to be spiteful, because let's be honest. The Xbone concentrates on being a media system, not primarily like a games console. And before you say i'm a playstation fanboy, I own a PS3 and Xbox 360 and play xbox a lot.

yeah, I know but they didn't have to make the name so degrading


its depends how you pronounce it tbh. if like me you say x b one then minor, but if were talking x bone then i could see why he says its degrading.
