Microsoft will continue to support Xbox 360 for three years

Microsoft will continue to support Xbox 360 long after Xbox One launches this November.

Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi said at the Citi Global Technology Conference yesterday: "If you look at Xbox 360 that platform [has] lasted for seven to eight years and it's going to go for another three years. It's incredibly profitable now in the tail."

Mehdi went on to assure consumers not yet ready to jump on the next-gen bandwagon that there will be plenty of new games released for Xbox 360.

"We are going to continue to invest in Xbox 360 and the two devices can work in concert," he said. "So it isn't just like the day we ship Xbox One, Xbox 360 won't work, we will continue to support it. In fact, we are going to ship over 100 new games on Xbox 360, so you will still be able to play your games, just not on the same exact box."

Mehdi also said Xbox One is currently in full production after Microsoft boosted the system's CPU from 1.6 GHz to 1.75 GHz.

Xbox One will launch in 13 markets this November priced at £430 / €500 / $500. The Xbox One release date will be announced later today, a pair of UK retailers suggested this morning.

I guess that's enough time to decide whether to stay on 360 and PC or move to Xbox One or PC

I was expeting this because many people are not going to be getting the Xbox one at release. and they are still going to be playing the 360.

I wonder to what level they are going to continue supporting the 360, like after this next dashboard update should we expect to see more updates or will that be the last one, and even thought they are still supporting it you should expect the level the monitor it and the number of bans to go down as their focus will be on the One.

Just 3 ? That is just kind of messed up for the people that like using it

Famous_Energy It should be much longer then three years.

I cant see many people still playing xbox 360 in 3 years from now, maybe there will be some people, but I don't see them having enough people for it to be worth the time and money of maintaining the servers.

Xbox has such a fan-base that they'll upgrade to Xbox One eventually.

TTGxExecutive 3 years is plenty of you ask me. The price of the one will be like a current Xbox most likely anyways

I agree. I don't see any point in staying with the Xbox 360 after 3 years.

See this is MS support, it's up to developers if they want their game on it
