Nintendo loses battle to take control of WiiU.com domain

4.5
Nintendo has lost the fight to gain control over the domain WiiU.com after a complaint was filed back in February.

WiiU.com in all its glory...
The decision was posted to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website on Saturday, confirming that Nintendo's complaint to gain control of WiiU.com was denied, as reported by Fusible.

The domain has been registered by a company in Burlington, Massachusetts since 2004.

Fusible notes that WiiU.com was put up for auction, yet once Nintendo filed the complaint with WIPO the listing was removed. It appears that Nintendo will have to pay a sizable amount in order to have control of the domain.

WiiU.com is currently a placeholder site containing link to both Wii U and non-WiiU content.

There has been no explanation provided as to why Nintendo lost the case.

-Wub I'd rather play regular Wii.

It's the same with me as well, I personally prefer the original Wii over the Wii U

wok unlucky nintendo, wii u is doing bad enough, not making money, and now they need to pay big for this, not good.

They don't need to pay for it unless they want it that bad. The Nintendo website has it's own section dedicated to the Wii U so they shouldn't really be worried about a domain.

lel sucks too because wiiu.com is one of those useless sites

I've never really gotten the point of sites like that. Are they meant to be a placeholder or something?

It's probably a placeholder to some degree. Because Nintendo can't get the site, the site owners can keep it how they want until they get bored with it or they are waiting for Nintendo to make a move on trying to buy it and hoping that making it the way it looks will speed things up so Nintendo will want to clear that site faster.

It's basically to say, "Hey guys, I have this oG domain that nobody else can have, aren't I edgy and original?"
