The tight top people where while swimming is called a rash guard. I used to wear one all the time when I went swimming and I saw numerous others wear them as well.

You need to get to the bottom of why you are self conscious. If you're overweight without sounding nasty how about you lose the extra weight and you won't be as self conscious anymore?
