I was watching scariest plane landings and during turbulence, a man on film says 'please God, land this plane safely'. How about, 'please pilot, land this plane safely'? It's the same with say surgeons. People say, 'thanks God' after a successful operation, instead of thanking the surgeon.

Fair enough, believe it what silly entities you want but don't credit an improvable thing when there are actual people to thank. I know it's just also a common thing to say in panic or relief but when people mean it intentionally to 'God' then it's wrong.

Nope, doesn't annoy me at all. That's probably because I believe in god though.

It doesn't bother me anymore. The surgeon and the pilot still get paid for their services.
If a Christian thanks God for his intervention after a surgery then it does beg the question, "Why go to the hospital in the first place?" Surely God would have saved their family member anyway.
But that isn't an idea I would like to push, knowing how many deaths are caused by 'alternative medicine' every year in the first place.

However, it does amuse me that people will thank God for his helpful intervention in dire situations but will not condemn him for his absence when those situations end unfavorably.

So you're going to ask for peoples opinion and then downvote them all, Jesus christ.

Even looking at the examples u have gave I'm sure after these near misses or times of desperation where they have ' thanked God' they are also greatful for the surgeon or pilot who saved them or family etc.. But even In times of great desperation those who aren't religious pray or thank god or look into a greater being just because they are that desperate. Even after they may not feel God was to thank but the men/women who carried out the duty..

Tbh I feel it's A pretty pointless rant. It's just a few words people string together when they are in amazement/ desperation at the thing in front of them. Unless they are religious then they perhaps most definitely feel god is responsible

*sorry if didn't make sense, slightly intoxicated* as per usual

I believe in God but I don't normally thank him for stuff like that. I just don't feel like he has much control.

The surgeon saying "Thanks God" is thanking God for making the human body so incredible that people can learn things and use that knowledge to save a life. Irrelevant of what happens, if a surgeon or Pilot uses God as an inspiration to save my life, I'll still thank him.

All I'm hearing right now is an Atheist complaining about religion because he has nothing better to do.
