You're all right, they can do whatever they want with their money.
You're all just failing to understand that what they're doing is detrimental to the whole concept of Gold members.
The entire point of some members being Gold and some members being Normal is that the Gold members are supposed to be the ones who have earned it by making good posts, being helpful and active.

Gold is supposed to be an achievement that you earn on this site by being a good member.
These people hosting giveaways where they gift any one who posts are making the distinction between Gold and Non-Gold members pointless. They're invalidating the entire point of there being a Gold membership on this site, so you might say 'They're not hurting anyone' but if everyone was doing it then Sean, if he cared enough, would have to invent some new level of membership which costs $15 per month.

They are harming the site by doing this, but it's more like a slow burning fire rather than a gas explosion.

Way to completely miss the point.
Dexters didn't give away gold to undeserving people so why would people be moaning at him?
Of course he would thank them, but he wouldn't have to say that it was the right thing for them to do.
Like being given a gift on your birthday which costs $100 from your Aunt who has money troubles.
You can still thank her but you don't have to think it was the right thing for her to do.
