Reuters wrote South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed legislation on Thursday to permanently remove the Confederate battle flag from the state capitol grounds, following an emotional debate spurred by the massacre of nine black churchgoers last month.

Haley signed the bill into law in the State House Rotunda before an audience of legislators and dignitaries shortly after 4 p.m. EDT (2000 GMT), and her office said the flag would be taken down at 10 a.m. (1400 GMT) on Friday.

"The Confederate flag is coming off the grounds of the South Carolina State House," Haley said to cheers and applause. "We will bring it down with dignity and we will make sure it is put in its rightful place."

South Carolina plans to keep Friday's flag relocation "as low-key as the national media will let us," said Haley spokeswoman Chaney Adams.

The rebel banner will go to the "relic room" of South Carolina's military museum in Columbia, the state capital.

It's about time they get rid of it
How would you guys feel if I had a nazi flag as my pic? And wore a nazi flag belt?
It's no different I either want to go to a store and buy a nazi flag and buy a confederate flag or have it so you can't buy and display both

They can remove it from the capital building, but they can never remove my freedom of speech as I fly this beautiful flag proudly.

Mostly being removed so they don't have riots like in Missouri, and Baltimore when things don't go peoples way...

You have the freedom to do anything, but you have to man up to the consequences if there are any.

About time. It should have never flown on government property after the Civil War. If people want to fly it on their own private property, then go ahead. On government grounds, no. It doesn't have nor has it ever had a place flying on government property after the war.
