milkxking wrote Eminem is still the best rapper. Everyone seems to compare Eminem to Eminem, not any other rapper. Everytime a new Eminem album comes out people say "Oh this album sucks, his old stuff was better". Yes, his old albums were better, but even his worst albums are better than 99% of other rappers best albums. People say Recovery or MMLP2 sucked, find me another album that came out around that time that was better. Find me a rapper that can put words together, change flows in the middle of a song, use crazy metaphors and wordplay like Eminem can, even on his WORST stuff. Is MMLP 2 better than MMLP1? No. Is MMLP2 better than any other album that came out recently when it comes to the things I mentioned above? Yes.

You clearly don't listen to much rap. There are WAY better albums than the MMLP2 and the terrible Recovery that came out at around the same time, but that's not my main point so I won't get into it. You don't know what you're talking about.

I have to agree with you on this.
To be honest, I don't like a lot of rap anymore as it is usually just about "getting stackz" and girls. Eminem is a very talented rapper but I mean his music is very overhyped.

Yes Eminem is a mainstream rapper I agree.
However think about what he has went through to get to where he is.
I agree his older music is better and he is mainstream now but in my opinion he deserves it.
All mainstream artists for every genre are overrated it's just how it is most of the time.
By the way I'm not a fan of Eminem but I appreciate his work.

I don't think he's overrated, I just think that he's going down hill. When he went as Slim Shady, IMO, he released better tracks. He's still one of my favorite rappers, but he's a little washed tbh.

I think he's pretty over-rated. He does have a few good songs off his first album but that's about it in my opinion.

It's true that artists like 2 pac and Eminem didn't make the best music in comparison to their competition, but what makes them regarded so highly is their impact. Eminem helped create the suburban middle class rap fan and 2 pac is the biggest rapper of all time. their music may not be considered the best, but their sheer legacy trumps most rappers undoubtedly. I'm personally not too big on either pac or eminem, but they do deserve the recognition they get, although most people that say 2 pac or Eminem is their favorite rapper tend not to listen to too much rap.

[font=Tahoma]The man is an absolute God at what he does, his writing skills are impeccable, Who else do you know that can fit a word this long into a song? "antidisestablishmentarianism". Also, Lose Yourself is one of the most cleverly written Rap songs of all time. There's almost no words in that song that don't rhyme with other words.

Maybe I'm just being bypass towards Em.
My opinion though, the man has talent.

Does anyone else think Eminem is completely overrated?

I've listened to ALL of Eminem's projects, and I just don't see all the hype.

Infinite was decent, MMLP1 and SSLP were great and I really enjoyed them. Even the Eminem Show was pretty good. But anything he has made after that is just mediocre. Encore was a big slap to the face. Relapse and Recovery were awful and MMLP2 was nothing special.

I just feel like he gets too much praise from people who don't actually listen to his music, people that just jump on the "Eminem is the greatest of all time" bandwagon. It really annoys me.

There are way better artists out there, including the Wutang Clan as individual artists, some obvious candidates like Biggie and Tupac,A Tribe Called Quest, and many more I'm not going to get into.

Thoughts?

I've seen him live at Leeds Festival last year.

Trust me you would delete this topic if you had seen him live, he is incredible.
