I've been a console gamer forever and now I'm thinking about switching platforms, but I'm not sure how viable it is.

I'm looking into building a gaming PC, but I'm not very tech savvy. My budget is $800 max for the tower. I already own a keyboard and mouse, and will buy a monitor for my setup if I decide to make a change.

Anyways, I'd like to know if it's possible to build a gaming computer that is more powerful than the Xbox One with my budget?

A guy on Yahoo Answers told me these would make a PC "way stronger" than an Xbox One:FX-8320, and GTX 760, but are these the only parts I would need besides having a lot of RAM? It seems too simple.

If anyone could give me some advice or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

What is your budget and currency? $800 US Dolars
Do you need a monitor? No
Do you need a keyboard? No
Do you need a mouse? No
Do you need an operating system? Yes
What will you use the PC for? Gaming, Photoshop, Sony Vegas Pro

Thanks

Its quite possible, and that's even restricting myself to one retailer. If you were willing to shop around you could buy all your parts from different vendors and possibly get money back from mail in rebates.

Something else you don't get with consoles is the ability to choose where you want more money spent. So if you didn't want fast storage, and more gaming power, thats fine. If you'd rather a slightly slower processor and faster gaming power thats fine too.

Most builds people suggest here have upgrade routes, so if you choose parts now, you'll be able to add in more parts and performance later on down the line.

Thanks for the suggestions.

So the CPU is the processor and is for fast storage. What benefits does that give me? Seeing as I want a gaming platform, I think I'd go with a stronger GPU.

Yeah, I actually live in Ecuador, so mail in rebates probably aren't much of an option for me.

So, hey, the Xbox One costs $500 US Dollars. Do you think it's possible to build a gaming PC that's as good as the One or maybe even a little better for the same price (assuming you don't need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor)?

The PC he built you is perfect and is way more powerful than X1 and PS4 a $300 PC is better than those haha

That kind of takes away your credibility when you say a $300 dollar PC is better than an Xbox One or PS4...

No that was just an example of how you can choose what parts you can pick and choose from.

Imagine the CPU being the brain of the system that does instructions for programs/applications and that performs all the number crunching.

Thats what I would suggest if you wanted one for just over 500. It would still perform better than a console, but it would be hard to work around that budget with a legitimate OS included.

Again if you shopped around, you might be able to get prices reduced, and any computer will let you do all that lovely computery stuff we love.

I'd personally go with this.

HD 7970 will run most/all games at max settings. FX-8320 is a strong CPU for the price. 8GB of RAM.

Great suggestions guys.

I'm looking at the specs of all the newest games and according to what I'm seeing, I'll be able to run these games on ultra top notch settings.

I have a question though. These games say they take 8 gigs of RAM. I noticed you included 2 of the Crucial Ballistix Sport 4 Gig chips, which equals 8 gigs of ram. Would it be safer to have more ram than these games say they require, or would I be okay on that?

2x4GB is fine, most next-gen games want 6GB-8GB max, none of them will really use 8gb.

You would be just fine with the 8GB, however more RAM is always better so if you decide to upgrade even just a little, it is definitely worth it.
