I actually ended up downloading it on an old junk laptop that i got for $45 from a yard sale. When the countdown is done it deletes your files and uninstalls itself.

There are a lot of ways to get any virus. This one is just like it, I heard the most common way was through emails. The maker will frame the emails so tat they look like they are from UPS or FedEx and many other companies and once you click on them an attachment will automatically download to your PC. Also, many websites are probably infected with the virus so I suggest you watch what you visit.

I guess i should start backing up my hard-drive as a precaution. I tend not to get too many viruses though as i'm pretty selective on what sites i browse/what i download.

I definitely wouldn't pay up the $300 though. It would be much cheaper to simply buy a new hard-drive all together in most cases

I had something like this a few years back, It was a program, I downloaded it because I thought it was a windows program because it opened up when I was on Google, I was automatically directed to a fake screen to download the program, the screen looked like a genuine windows virus scan

Long story short, I downloaded and installed it, and it said I had to buy the premium version, and it prevented me accessing any files for 'security reasons'

Just format the computer and you will be good to go
