JoGrizzly wrote Wow. the other day my school computer had a virus in it matched the picture in the article. I was wondering why on the school computer it said to pay $300 to remove it.

Because people will actually end up paying it and he probably doesn't even unlock the files.

It's a fake rouge ware that encrypts your HDD, and makes them inaccessible. The program demands that you pay a sufficient fee to life it off, but it isn't necessary to buy a new pc. Simply reformat the hard drive, would be my best guess. But alas, you will encounter data loss from this action as well.

Such vocabulary, I'm impressed lol

Malwarebytes Pro can block the virus from executing its code so if you are unlucky enough to be targeted then it should stop the virus from locking the files.

It also claims to be able to remove the virus once infected, but because it uses a public and private key for the encryption it cannot unlock the files.

You know, you could just boot the computer into safe mode then remove the virus from your start up and then remove it with an anti virus software. No need to restore your HDD. :p

If your files are already encrypted that won't matter. Without wiping and restoring there's basically no way of getting your files back.
