I have heard you can get numbing gel but you probably won't need it.

There are gels but I mean wouldnt that kind of defeat the purpose of getting ink done? If you cant take the pain why get a tattoo in the first place?

If you are going to use gel you should also let your artist know. Ask your artist what kind of gun they use, cartirge guns in general hurt less and are almost silent so the low sound also kind of helps ease pain but if its a traditional needle gun then its just going to feel regular. I prefer traditional but I know some people that swear by cartridge.

I guess some people don't inextricably link the pain of getting a tattoo with the desired result of having the image on their body.
To some the pain is simply a detriment and the outcome is all that matters. If you could skip the itchy healing process, would you?
Does itchiness not have the same primal satisfaction and meaning as the pain does?

The only place I have one is on my forearm. It just stings a little, but isn't that bad.

I have about 13 tattoos including my entire back(work in progress).

The best way to avoid the pain is not get a tattoo.
Or just bring your phone and watch a movie on it. I learned focusing on other things takes the pain away a bit.

But my lower back, when it was getting done. Worst pain I've ever felt. Won't deny it

I have two tattoo's one on my wrist and then one on my shoulder. The shoulder was less painful then the one on my wrist. When I got my Phoenix done (Shoulder) took about 2 hours to finish, I just sat there listening to music and playing on my phone with my free arm since you have to be perfectly still. There was little to no pain on my shoulder, however along came my wrist. I had no bleeding whatsoever on my Shoulder but bled quite a bit on my wrist, and the pain wasn't a scratching sensation (Which I actually enjoyed tbh) was more of a burning sensation that felt awful after 30 minutes. It all depends on where the tattoo is going. The more time the artist spends on the tattoo the more likely it's going to hurt, obviously. Where your getting it shouldn't be that bad, but if it ever feels like the pain is becoming more unbearable just let your artist know that you need a short break. Your tattoo should probably take between 2-3 hours max, maybe longer depending on how fast your artist moves. But good luck with the tattoo!
