I have 2 German Shepherds and these dogs don't like to be left alone. They are guard dogs, they want to sit at your feet and just be around you in general. If you don't have someone else that can take care of them when you are at work I wouldn't get one. I usually take Dargun with me to most jobs, here are both of the dogs while I was helping re-roof a house. They stayed there for most of the day.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if no one is home with the dog, it will only create you a massive headache and you won't love it most of the time because when they are bored they chew, when they are nervous, they chew, etc. Put them in a kennel, they dig out. If you don't have the proper amount of time they need, a dog isn't a good idea.

I also forgot to mention, as soon as they start walking, you need to train them. There are many ways to train them, for example when I take Dargun on a walk, I make him heel. Heeling is where the dog walks with you instead of 10 feet in front you you dragging you down the road. He also knows that when I stop, he sits. To teach them to sit, make it clear and make a routine, for example the heeling and stopping is a good way to teach them, push on their butt when they don't sit. Eventually they will sit but you can't get frustrated. Training a dog is easy, it is training yourself that is hard.

The thing you and your dog needs to understand is who is dominant. To be dominant that does not mean beat him in a corner until he pees himself, it means that when he goes against your command, give an equal punishment. When Dargun tries to pull me, I give the leash a firm tug, enough to make his head turn around but by no means as hard as I can. It shows him that I am in command, not him. Once the dog understands you are dominant, training will be easy.

We have 3 German Shepards, and if we have to leave we find someone to take care of them for the week, like feed them, play with them (they have self entertainment) , and let them outside for half the day. 2 days isn't that bad but it isn't good.

Oh and make sure your dog is good enough to take on frequent walks in public, one of my dogs is a pain to walk around.

Don't listen to most of these fat lazy ****. If you get one, consider that animal abuse since youre out of the house most of the day. If you get ANY dog and your planning on being gone that long on a day to day basis and don't plan on walking atleast once a day, get a Bulldog.

Yo, animal abuse is not that if he will be home to see it, it's not like he sleeps at work, like he said, 9-5.
And animal abuse is beating them not leaving them home for 8 hours with a caretaker every once in a while, and you think bulldogs can be abused? Make your post make sense.

Think about it. Picture yourself as a dog, no video games, no cell phones, no nothing, just your tennis ball, some squeeky things, food and water. I am gone for the better part of 10 hours (figure an hour to get to work, an hour to get back home, and the 8 hour work day), so you are all alone with nothing to do for 10 hours. Then when I do get home, I get to cook dinner, and maybe take you for a 15 minute walk and go to bed. How is that going to make you feel? I would feel abused. Being abused isn't just being beat, there have been many people who have been fined and even arrested for animal abuse because they left their dog at home (granted the dog got into something, but what dog wouldn't?). As for bulldogs, they have essentially been used as junkyard dogs, it is in their breed to not need human assistance.

I have school from 7am to 3pm with no one home during those times. I feed my dogs breakfast in the morning around 6:30 and a dinner at 7pm. I walk them about an hour after they eat at night so they don't poop in the house.

Having your puppy around a lot of people would probably be a great thing to do. It probably wouldn't be as annoying as my younger dog around anyone new.

Why do you work an hour away from you house both ways? Also I highly doubt you sleep for 12 hours every single day. Even with an 8 hour work day and chores, feeding myself and my dogs, I can still get an hour or two of active playing with them in. Dogs also sleep a lot, and they learn your schedule. If they know they are going to be bored for a certain part of the day, they'll probably sleep a lot then. It's also still not about. It might be neglect, but certainly not abuse.

Lastly, you probably have some neighbors who would be nice enough to check on them if you really feel like it's necessary.

I have a puppy and she's a pain in my ass! She chews all my stuff but u know puppies don't know any better so it's all good but yea it would be better if u took him down to the office a couple days a week because leaving dogs alone at such a young age can cause aggressiveness and other things.
