So I recently bought a new gear gaiter for my lift reverse gear stick, but when tucked in it negatively effects my gear movement, I was literally unable to put it into reverse when the gaiter was tucked in instead of being out and baggy.

I don't know whether or not she is trying to kill me but my mum suggested I just untuck the gaitor and leave it as is, saying 'It only tucks in if you tuck it in', while normal gear movement was making the gaitor shift and tuck in different areas and move elsewhere etc... as a normal gear gaitor does.

Am I over reacting or should I keep the gaitor untucked and see how it goes? But when it was tucked in my lift reverse genuinely would not slot into place because the gaitor was blocking the connection.

I think you just answered your own problem. You shouldn't be modifying anything to the point where your car won't *work* and that's exactly what it's doing. I would suggest putting it back how it was, but is there a reason you don't want to?

Mainly just appearance, I've ordered an official gaiter made specifically for my model car so it's the same one just brand new, it'll look nicer and actually be the correct fit I hope.

No point even having a slight chance of my gaiter messing up my ability to reverse, could literally be life or death.

As far as mods go, think I may have messed up my handbrake too lol, tried touching it up with some paint but it looked messy so I decided to sandpaper the whole thing and strip it back to white plastic.

Seems like you made the right decision. Doesn't make sense for it to look cool if you're going to be killed. Can't wait to see how it looks when you get the new one and it's all perfect!
