It all depends on where you live really. For me Virgin Media is the best provider but it might be different for you. Have a look around for the best speeds you can find, but from personal experience if you can get Virgin, use them as they've always been reliable and quick in my opinion.

Really depends on budget. You'll be on a fibre connection now with Plusnet which Plusnet re-sell the line which BT have implemented.

The speeds will be similar across the board unless you went with a "super speed" fibre package which BT can offer speeds of up to 80/20.

Fibre to premis is an option if you're rich lol, speeds can be almost double 80/20.

Depends on a fair few things.

I've been with BT, Sky and now Virgin media

For me Virgin media had been the most consistent ISP, their repairs are speedy on the odd occasion once/twice a year internet access goes down

Their support is usually friendly

They offer good deals for first time clients and they're always willing to barter a package down should you consider another ISP

Their speeds are also reliable and I don't notice much throttle if any even at peak times

Virgin Media is the best mate, i pay £48 a month for 350mbps and 20mbps upload speed.

BT Infinity 2 I have found to be extremely reliable.

If you don't have that kind of speed in the package you pay for you won't even get those speeds. I guess it just improves the wifi connection strength but seems kinda stupid to me

The router will probably load balance better and yeah, like you said might improve the wireless around the house.

Stick with the ISP router you get when purchasing the new package, I'm personally with BT (Infinity 2) and the router is solid but I have my own little network in my home so I bought a new router. Completely up to you if you have the money.
