So I'm looking to upgrade from my standard issued IOTV to a personally owned plate carrier.
I've been looking online a lot, and I've found a few I like... but I'd like the input from other tactical minds before I make a decision.

Mission Type: I'm attached to a weapons squad in a light infantry Mountain Unit.
The plate carrier would have to be lightweight, flexible, and breathable, while still providing enough space for the necessary MOLLE pouches.
Would more than likely be performing long patrols in a mountain terrain, if deployed.
Stateside, as I am for now, it would be used in field training exercises in a woodland environment.
And honestly, it's got to look cool too. I'm leaning more towards the Viper as of right now.

Viper Plate Carrier: $280

Diamondback DTAC: $318

Eagle Multi-Mission: $385

I'll also gladly look into any other recommended ones as well.

If you are wanting to use it on post you need to be careful and make sure it's up to "standards" otherwise some snobby little CO will can you for it.

Either way it all comes down to what you want to spend. Me personally, i bought AR-500 armor because it's the strongest that i've found.

I have this one with level III+LW. It will burn a temporary hole in your wallet but it's worth it. I roll with this for work. I decided to spend the money on it so if it came down to getting tagged up, i'd prefer something that won't shit on my day. I have my issued vest but it only stops up to 357 and i keep this in my trunk in case of active shooters or combat situations and the enemy asshole is using 5.56 or 7.62. I swapped the mag carrier because my magazines are a really tight fit and it's hard to pull which is dangerous in a combat situation.

From what i have heard Diamondback has really bad stitching that comes lose after some use so i'd stay away.

Viper is decent, a buddy of mine has one but like level II i think.

At the end of the day, It's users preference.

Thanks! Youre always helpful when i need something haha. So everyone in my company started getting them, and it seems to be as long as its brown or multicam, they dont mind. Even about the stupid guys that are risking their lives by buying $50 carriers.
Im not worried about plates right now though. We dont train with plates in, and im assuming when we need plates, the army will issue them. But if it comes down to that ill definitely keep the AR-500 in mind.

No problem man, glad to help! if you decide on ordering it let me know. Our department has good connections with them and we get good discounts so i could probably get something for you, it wouldn't be crazy but probably like 20% off or something like that.

I wish I read this before I ordered it. Think I can cancel it and try to go through you?

I mean if you ordered it then don't even bother, listen. Send me a PM, i can maybe hook you up with one of my older vests. It's pretty much brand new and i used it like once. It has Level II plates as well.
