I figured I'd post a thread of my build so far while everyone else is just to get a truck thread on here lol. I bought my '97 F-150 October 1st, 2013 when I was 15 years old for 5k. It is just your standard 3 door, '97 F-150 XLT 4x4 with the 4.6L engine, and 4r70 trans with 160k miles. Was it the vehicle I wanted? Not really, but it was the vehicle I needed for work so eventually I started making it into the vehicle I wanted lol.

The day I bought it 10/1/13:

How much did your lift cost? It's like 1900$ not including installation.... unless that's what you paid haha

The lift was $1k if I remember right, and I did it with two other guys (they knew what they were doing, I at the time didn't). By the time I got the lift right, it was about $1500.

I had the Rough Country 5" lift, I'm no mechanic, but it was a fairly easy install, no welding or fab required. The only issue with the RC lift is that the U-bolts in the rear are down right dangerous (too thin), and they have you stack blocks in the rear which also isn't too safe. Buy the RCX 5" kit, then buy a solid block and thicker U-bolts and you'll be fine. I put F-250 springs with an AAL in the rear because mine kept flattening out.

Honestly though, and I hate to be the buzz kill but don't lift the truck man. Before I lifted my truck it was almost perfect. After I lifted it, it was in the shop about every 3 months needing either ball joints, ti rods, pitman arms, CV axles, or wheel bearings. Honestly, I just kept running into issue after issue with the lift.

Cool now my truck is 5" taller, but now I need new tires. At $300 each, that was a hard pill to swallow. Ok, so now I just dumped 1k on a lift and $1200 on some 35's, but the truck runs like crap. It is just geared WAY too high for 35's, so now I need new gear ratios. To get 4.10's or 4.56's was around $2k - $2250. So now after spending $2300 on a lift and tires, you need ANOTHER $2k for gears. Now you're in $4250 just so the truck will look right going down the road, add in the quarterly repairs and after 1 year like that, I could've bought my truck again.

When I sold it I had over $15k into it (forget the exact number, it's here somewhere lol), but only got $5500 back. I also only put 23k miles on it. Lifted trucks are cool and fun, but with an IFS system truck, it's a waste of money. If you get a solid axle truck, hell yeah, lift it lol.

So I just ran a couple numbers, and this is damned interesting lol.

General expenses = $0.41 per mile
Gas = $0.20 per mile
Tires $0.03 per mile
Lift caused repairs (cv's, ball joints) = $0.12 per mile

Every mile I drove costed me $0.76.

Dude the transformation was awesome. I loved looking at the pictures. If I ever do a project and start taking pictures of progression I always forget to take some! That was awesome sad you sold it brother.

Thanks man, I tried to put 37's on but it would rub terribly so I never did it. Also would've meant having to regear which is more expensive than buying new 37's lol.
